What is phacoemulsification?
Phacoemulsification is the most advanced technique for cataract removal. An ultra-fine probe uses ultrasound waves to break up the cloudy natural lens, which is then gently suctioned out. A clear, foldable intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted in its place through a micro-incision that usually needs no stitches.
Benefits
Because the incision is tiny, recovery is fast, there is minimal discomfort and most patients notice clearer vision within a day or two. The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and usually takes only 10-20 minutes per eye.
